Now I have mentioned this in passing on my blog but due to the ever escalating energy crisis I thought it might be of interest to explain WHY they are more efficient than say blinds or curtains.

First of all Shutters are very solid (Hardwood or Upvc) they are fitted as tight as possible up to the existing window frame there by stopping the inside air from escaping to the outside and obviously stopping the colder outside air coming in, this helps keep the room temperature at a ambient level, I am talking about the UK weather in general but if you lived in hotter climes it works in reverse, keeping it cooler. Now in general plantation shutters will save you around 50% of lost heat through the windows…. actually in tests the Upvc came out slightly better( actual R values are 2.80..hardwood and 3.17 on Upvc) due to added insulation in the frames and shutter blades , when you compare this to blinds… there’s no comparison at all.

Right …. Now we know the energy conserving benefits, what other benefits are there to fitting Plantation Shutters…well timeless style and elegance for a start …coupled with every day practicalities’ …. Ease of use …you control the amount of light that enters the room, each individual panel allows you to open the top or bottom part giving absolute light management. Sound pollution that’s another plus especially if you are on a busy road or basically just want a bit more peace and quiet…. Hardwood or Upvc both help reduce road noise.
